Olympic-Level Horsemanship in the Heart of San Diego

For over 40 years, Everardo "Evey" Hegewisch has trained horses and riders at the highest levels of the sport — from the 1988 Seoul Olympics to international Grand Prix rings today. Now based in Del Mar, that same world-class training is here for you, in a barn built on horsemanship, community, and results.

Our Philosophy

■

At Everardo Hegewisch Stables, we start with the horse. Every horse in our program is treated as the elite athlete they are with training built around suppleness, rideability, and a happy, confident mindset, alongside a fitness program designed to keep them performing at their peak.

We believe that great riding is built on great horsemanship. Evey's decades of experience showing at the highest levels internationally inform every lesson, training ride, and care of every horse in our barn. Our goal is simple: healthy, strong, happy horses and confident, competitive riders.

Whether you're a young rider working toward your first jumper round or a veteran competitor chasing a national title, our program is built to meet you - and your horse - exactly where you are, and take you further.

Our Services

Our lesson program is designed for riders who are ready to compete. To join, riders should be comfortable jumping a full course at crossrails or higher and looking to move forward seriously in the sport - whether that means the local hunter/jumper circuit, equitation finals, or bigger goals down the road.

Lessons

Located just three minutes from Del Mar Showpark - and within easy driving distance of Thermal, Temecula, and Los Angeles - our Del Mar facility offers everything your horse needs to stay happy, healthy, and competition-ready. This include full groom care, turnouts, multiple rings, and accessible trails.

Evey is available for clinics both locally in Southern California and nationally, bringing 50+ years of Olympic, Pan American, and FEI-level training experience directly to your property. He is able to provide coaching for jumpers, hunters and equitation riders, as well as those working with young horses.

Meet the Team

Behind every ride is a team with decades of international show experience including trainers, riders, and grooms who compete at the highest levels themselves and put horse care first, always.

Eleven years ago I moved to San Diego and started riding with Evey. Everyday I am more sure this is where I am meant to be and finding every opportunity to make my dreams feel like attainable goals. It’s the trust, training, and support that made me feel at home in San Diego as a college freshman and has continued to make the barn my constant home as as an adult amateur.
